The LTO tape drives were created in the late 1990’s as a way to provide data storage. It was customary to see most businesses using a linear tape open (LTO) as it was able to hold about 100GB of data in just one tape drive. Back in the 90’s this was a huge advancement in technology and really offered significant data storage options to companies. Now the LTO tape drives have undergone years of transformations as there are several tape drive options to consider to provide you with high quality data storage and efficient transfer rates. LTO has been called “super tape” since the early 2000’s and it continues to lead the market for high amounts of media storage along with reliable speed.
Although LTO tape drives were seen as a revolution, like any form of technology they have undergone scrutiny over the years. There have been some problems with the LTO tape drives, mostly with your magnetic tape strip. If it is not secured in the right position, it can malfunction. There are several tape drive repair companies out there that can help with these type of issues in order to prevent you from having any data loss.
Before you call in some professional LTO tape drive repair companies, you might try out a few of the following things to see if it makes a difference:
- Remove the drive from the changer and then take out the housing and spool.
- Look at the leader to see if it is missing any flares.
- Thread the leader through the rollers and make sure the leader is not damaged in any way or you will have to call in professional tape drive repair services
- The leader will need to go past the roller in order to work correctly. Check for any issues with the spooling process and to see if it is missing any hooks.
- Place the tape drive back in and test it out to see if it works or not.
